What To Do In A Braces Emergency
IF YOUR APPLIANCE IS DAMAGED OR PAINFUL:
Call our office. We will make the next available appointment with you. For loose bands, brackets, broken or poking wires, here are some comfort measures that may alleviate discomfort until your appointment:
- Cover loose tie wires with beeswax or tuck it away from your gums with a blunt object such as a pencil eraser or cotton-tipped swab.
- Bend broken or poking archwires with a pencil eraser, or cut them with nail clippers.
- Loose bands or brackets can usually be left in place until you are able to be seen.
- For any other concerns, call our office for a consultation.
IF YOUR MOUTH OR TEETH ARE INJURED:
Apply ice and contact your dentist first. If a tooth is damaged or knocked out, your dentist may need to treat the injury before we can repair any damage to the appliance connected to that tooth or teeth. If an appliance is dislodged, we will repair or replace the appliance after any treatments by your general dentist.
